Crescit Eundo: Growing Together in Northern New Mexico.

United Way Northern New Mexico Executive Director Op-Ed

Spring is finding its way back to Northern New Mexico. We feel it in the wind, see it in the fading snow, and—true to our region—we can experience all four seasons in a single day. This time of year reminds us to expect the unexpected, but also to pause in gratitude and recognize the possibility of transformation.

For many, spring also marks the Lunar New Year—the Spring Festival—symbolizing renewal and new beginnings. This year, the Year of the Fire Horse, carries themes of movement, courage, and forward momentum. It's a powerful reminder that change is not only possible—it's something we can move toward together.

I know this may feel like an unusual way to begin an op-ed. But if you've read my past messages, you know this comes from a place of deep gratitude and humility.

"And truly, I am grateful."

Grateful for our donors—individuals, businesses, and organizations—who continue to show up for this community. You make this work possible. You are part of what's working here.

Our Focus in 2026

As we move through 2026, our focus remains clear: building community and creating real, positive change. This work is about our neighbors, our families, and especially our young people—making sure they have the support, confidence, and opportunities they need to move forward.

Because we know this: no single program can solve complex challenges alone.

That's why United Way Northern New Mexico brings people and organizations together—aligning efforts so our community, and our youth, are set up for long-term success. Through local grantmaking, Collective Impact efforts like the Future Leaders Council in Española and Pathfinder Casita, our nonprofit alliance (UNITE!), and our role as the Northern New Mexico Youth Fund Resource Hub, we're working side by side with partners across the region.

Crescit Eundo

This isn't work we do alone. It's work we do together—with you.

New Mexico is known for its landscapes, its history, and the many cultures that shape who we are. Our state motto, Crescit Eundo—"it grows as it goes"—reflects something deeply true about this place. We grow by moving forward, together.

As United Way Northern New Mexico enters our 72nd year, I want to thank you—for your trust, your partnership, and your belief in this community.

We're in this together. And together, we're building something stronger for all of us.

United We Thrive.
