United Way Summer 2022 Update

Letter from our President-Liddie Martinez:

On behalf of the United Way of Northern New Mexico Board of Trustees, I want to thank our community members for your continuing support of our mission in Rio Arriba and Los Alamos Counties. Your generous donations and volunteer efforts are not only appreciated but essential to the continuation of our programs.

I personally have been a United Way donor and volunteer since the mid 1990s. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to serve on the Grants Committee and visit with each of the agencies that receive funding thanks to the generosity of our donors. I’ve seen firsthand how your donations have made an incredible difference in the lives of many. Our region’s schools are improving because more of our children are receiving therapeutic social-emotional supports. Rural schools and library programs serving youth are expanding their services by now sending food deliveries home with students whose families are facing hunger issues. Art, music and dance programs are being incorporated into public school programming and volunteer mentors are providing support to students readjusting to in-person learning from a pandemic that for many, brought more extreme poverty and more isolation.

Our region’s older adults were supported with rent and utility assistance programs. United Way of Northern New Mexico also invested in programs that provide much needed home repairs and improvements to help our region’s most vulnerable seniors. Older adults living with chronic illness were given access to nutritious meals and were provided transportation assistance to their medical appointments. United Way support to our elders in the region have lifted many into independence and stability. As we continue our journey to a stronger region in 2022, we are honored that you have chosen the United Way of Northern New Mexico as a partner, supporter and friend. Thank you to our volunteers and donors in community. We cannot say it enough. We welcome your feedback and are delighted to serve our communities for another year, because when we unite, anything is possible.
