  • This interactive workshop helps nonprofit staff strengthen their visual storytelling and photography skills—no fancy equipment or prior experience needed. Led by photographer and educator Jane Bernard, the session focuses on storytelling strategies and smartphone photography techniques that are simple, practical, and easy to implement. Each workshop is custom tailored to your organization’s unique mission, audience, and day-to-day work to ensure relevance and impact. Course Topics Include:

    • Storytelling Essentials: Learn the building blocks of effective, heart-centered stories that connect with donors, board members, and your community.

    • Smartphone Photography: Capture more compelling, mission-driven photos using the camera you already have in your pocket.

    • Photographing Children: Tips for photographing kids in a respectful, engaging way—without needing a signed release.

    • Lighting Tips: Learn how to confidently and creatively use natural and artificial light to instantly improve your images. Discover easy tricks for working with sunlight, lamps, and overhead lights—anyone can do it.

    • Story Integration: Incorporate storytelling into your daily workflow so it becomes second nature, not an extra task.

  • Jane Bernard is a professional photographer and educator who has spent over a decade coaching nonprofits and artists in visual storytelling. She helps organizations clarify and elevate their narratives using simple, practical tools that lead to authentic images, strong storytelling assets, and more effective outreach.

    In 2011, Ms. Bernard played a key role in launching the International Folk Art Market’s Mentor to Market program. This transformative initiative has provided business training, skill-building, and marketing workshops to over 930 folk artists from more than 40 countries, supporting them in developing sustainable livelihoods.

    Ms. Bernard is an award-winning documentary, editorial, and commercial photographer whose work has been published worldwide. A former member of the prestigious Black Star Editorial Agency in New York City, she also has served as a staff photographer for the Albuquerque Journal and the Santa Fe Reporter.

    Established in 2001, Jane Bernard Photography’s commercial client list includes Toyota, Showtime, the Oxygen Network, Mary Kay Cosmetics, and Inspire Brands.
