Cindy Padilla began a 30-year career in public service as a summer intern for the City of Santa Fe. Following the internship, Ms. Padilla was hired permanently by the City as the first coordinator of the local Keep America Beautiful program. Ms. Padilla continued her public service career moving into management and leadership positions that have spanned local, state and federal government. In 2005, while working for the NM Environment Department, Ms. Padilla was appointed by the Governor of NM to the position of Deputy Secretary. Following five years at the NM Environment Department, she was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Aging & Long-Term Services Department.
In 2009, Ms. Padilla received a White House appointment to the Department of Health & Human Services, Administration on Aging/Administration for Community Living as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary. She served in President’s Barack Obama’s Administration for over two years, and is now a member of the Latinos 44 Alumni Association.
Most recently, beginning in 2016, Cindy has been a consultant to Grantmakers In Aging leading their Rural Aging Initiative. Ms. Padilla also serves as a volunteer Board Member of the National Hispanic Council on Aging and is currently the Board Chair.
